The power jack on my laptop detached. Back to Toshiba or local repair?
The DC power jack on my Toshiba notebook computer has detached itself from the motherboard to the point where the machine will not charge. It is still under manufacturer warranty. However, I don’t know necessarily that I would get the same machine back, plus the shipping is a hassle. Now, if I were to take it to a local PC shop, or possibly even (shudder) Geek Squad, They might charge $25 to repair it. My worry then is spoiling the warranty in case something else breaks. Its a one year warranty from October 25th, 2008.

Do you know the history behind the writing of the old testament ?
THE ORIGIN OF THE BIBLE.

A few wandering families — poor, wretched, without education, art or power; descendants of those who had been enslaved for four hundred years; ignorant as the inhabitants of Central Africa, had just escaped from their masters to the desert of Sinai. Their leader was Moses, a man who had been raised in the family of Pharaoh and had been taught the law and mythology of Egypt. For the purpose of controlling his followers he pretended that he was instructed and assisted by Jehovah, the God of these wanderers.

Everything that happened was attributed to the interference of this God. Moses declared that he met this God face to face; that on Sinai’s top from the hands of this God he had received the tables of stone on which, by the finger of this God, the Ten Commandments had been written, and that, in addition to this, Jehovah had made known the sacrifices and ceremonies that were pleasing to him and the laws by which the people should be governed.

In this way the Jewish religion and the Mosaic Code were established.

It is now claimed that this religion and these laws were and are revealed and established for all mankind.

At that time these wanderers had no commerce with other nations, they had no written language, they could neither read nor write. They had no means by which they could make this revelation known to other nations, and so it remained buried in the jargon of a few ignorant, impoverished and unknown tribes for more than two thousand year’s.

Many centuries after Moses, the leader, was dead many centuries after all his followers had passed away — the Pentateuch was written, the work of many writers, and to give it force and authority it was claimed that Moses was the author.

We now know that the Pentateuch was not written by Moses.

Towns are mentioned that were not in existence when Moses lived.

Money, not coined until centuries after his death, is mentioned.

So, many of the laws were not applicable to wanderers on the desert — laws about agriculture, about the sacrifice of oxen, sheep and doves, about the weaving of cloth, about ornaments of gold and silver, about the cultivation of land, about harvest, about the threshing of grain, about houses and temples, about cities of refuge, and about many other subjects of no possible application to a few starving wanderers over the sands and rocks.

It is now not only admitted by intelligent and honest theologians that Moses was not the author of the Pentateuch, but they all admit that no one knows who the authors were, or who wrote any one of these books, or a chapter or a line. We know that the books were not written in the same generation; that they were not all written by one person; that they are filled with mistakes and contradictions. It is also admitted that Joshua did not write the book that bears his name, because it refers to events that did not happen until long after his death.

No one knows, or pretends to know, the author of Judges; all we know is that it was written centuries after all the judges had ceased to exist. No one knows the author of Ruth, nor of First and Second Samuel; all we know is that Samuel did not write the books that bear his name. In the 25th chapter of First Samuel is an account of the raising of Samuel by the Witch of Endor.

No one knows the author of First and Second Kings or First and Second Chronicles; all we know is that these books are of no value.

We know that the Psalms were not written by David. In the Psalms the Captivity is spoken of, and that did not happen until about five hundred years after David slept with his fathers.

We know that Solomon did not write the Proverbs or the Song; that Isaiah was not the author of the book that bears his name; that no one knows the author of Job, Ecclesiastes, or Esther, or of any book in the Old Testament, with the exception of Ezra.

We know that God is not mentioned or in any way referred to in the book of Esther. We know, too, that the book is cruel, absurd and impossible.

God is not mentioned in the Song of Solomon, the best book in the Old Testament.

And we know that Ecclesiastes was written by an unbeliever.

We know, too, that the Jews themselves had not decided as to what books were inspired — were authentic — until the second century after Christ.

Well that about wraps that myth up ,not much point in arguing about it now unless of course you are missing several parts of the essential organs in man/

No, they were not poor. They had been given the gold, jewels, and other things of wealth of the Egyptians before they left.

Wretched, ok maybe? As in undergoing trauma and fleeing to a better place.

Without education: No. The Jews could read quite well. Both Hebrew and Egyptian.

Without Art: No. Hebrew culture from back then is still to be found, you can see some beautiful artwork found on pottery, walls, etc, that the Hebrews created.

Without power: No, not without power. If they were without power they wouldnt have been able to get up and leave, nor would they have been able to move through the lands they were going to, and overcome those who tried to kill them, nor would they have been able to conquer the land of Canaan if they had been without power.

As for the rest, I’ve just glanced up and seen the last few sentences, and they are as moronic and inaccurate as the first.

Se7en (1995)

The seasoned and cultured Sommerset researches the Seven Deadly Sins in an effort to understand the killer’s modus operandi while green Detective Mills scoffs at his efforts to get inside the mind of a killer…

Toxic thriller ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ should be locked away

Some movies are just bad; others are bad for the people who make them and the innocent bystanders who catch a whiff of them. "Law Abiding Citizen," a vigilante/torture-porn potpourri, is particularly toxic because it’s scented with phony importance.

If the home-invasion rape and murder before the opening credits doesn’t clue you that you’re in movie hell, you’ll know it when the scrum of reporters asks Philadelphia prosecutor Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) why he plea-bargained a lesser sentence for the cutthroat creep who is shaking his hand.

As Rice explains to Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler), the grieving, incredulous survivor of the attack, justice is subject to negotiation.

It turns out that the family man we’re supposed to identify with is not only a savage psychopath but a technical mastermind, a superman with the equipment and time to single-handedly dig a network of tunnels under federal facilities.

Even after he confesses to the revenge killings and is sent to prison, Shelton is able to play games with Rice, who is the last name on the hit list, by negotiating concessions and somehow executing further murders from behind bars. In the pantheon of thrillers, this is "Death Wish 5" masquerading as "Se7en."

The big problem with the movie isn’t the violence, or the message about coddling criminals, or the two lead actors, although they’ve never been worse. It’s the utter implausibility, from the initial, drug-crazed invasion to the final, heroic walk-away from an exploding building.

"Law Abiding Citizen" is the kind of corrosive entertainment for which the excuse "It’s only a movie" was invented. But in this courtroom, that’s no defense.

Tiger Barbs are sick and look like their dying.. HELP!?
They have some sort of white fuzz growing on them! One has a rather large flood spot where his tail meets his body. I don’t understand why, they were fine this morning!
I have a 5 gallon with only 2 barbs left. They are only around a week old from the pet store. Could they have had a disease from the store? I don’t know what to do because I can tell they’re suffering a lot, but I’m at college and I can’t really do anything..

Classic you have to watch it. A very young Nicholas Cage and Mathew Modine.

Twists at the end are common now but this was the first film i saw with one and still the best. Made around 1980 i think.

What is my story like?
Reese sat in her chair during homeroom with her legs crossed. Seventeen magazine featuring Leighton Meester on the cover laid across her legs as she stared at Mrs. Livingston standing in front of the podium.
"As you may know, homecoming is coming up." Mrs. Livingston announced. "And in each homeroom students get to nominate a girl to be on court. Today we’re going to do just that."
Reese smiled to herself. She already knew who she was going to vote for. It was her one and only best friend Elisha. Elisha seemed so excited about homecoming court that Reese couldn’t let her down.

She suddenly heard a loud yawned. She looked across the room and saw Savannah putting her hand over her mouth. She thought Savannah was beautiful. The way her hair fell down in loose curls on her brown shoulders, the way her cheeks puffed up when she smiled, her beauty mark on her right cheek, and how her kindness radiated her.
Reese got up and walked over to her desk. "You look tired."
She reached out to press Savannah’s hair down. A few strands were sticking up and her eyes were puffy and red.
"I literally got forty-five minutes of sleep." Savannah said wearily.
"What on Earth did you do last night?"
"I couldn’t sleep so I stayed up all night working on a short story."
"If you don’t have any homework to do, you can just take a nap."
Reese felt sorry for Savannah. She couldn’t imagine staying up all night unless it was on a Friday or Saturday or days that didn’t have school the next day.

Livingston handed them a sheet of paper to write down the name of a girl in their grade.
"I know who I’m voting for." Judy said in a singsong voice.
"Not me." Savannah singed in a high-pitch voice.
"Too late." Judy said, taking out her Disney mechanical pencil and writing Savannah’s name in cursive.
She promptly got out of her seat and gave the paper to Livingston. "The deed is done."
Savannah shook her head. She was certain no one would pick her. Sure they knew her well enough, but did she have the look. She knew good and well her friend Elisha had more confidence and beauty than she will ever have.
"I’ll vote for you." Jimmy Strode, a blond-haired boy said.
His face was long and he had quite a few zits on his face.
"I want to run, but I don’t want to." Savannah said.
"That made no sense." Judy said. "And besides, even he wants to vote for you."
"I do, too." Rick said, writing down Savannah’s name on a piece of paper.
"You know what I’m gonna say." Alfie said, doing the same thing.
"Okay, wow," Savannah stated, "Four people voting for me. Out of a thousand freshmen in this school."

"Come on, it’ll be fun." Reese said. "You might not win anyway, but at least you’ll get noticed."
Like I’m already not. Savannah thought.
People she didn’t know would come up to her in the hallway just to say hi to her. It was basically because she was Davey Smith’s little step-sister. She wondered if they would be saying the same thing if she wasn’t his step-sister.

"What’s up?" Damien Marshall asked, turning around in his seat to face Savannah.
For some reason he chose to sit in front of her that day. Savannah never really exchanged words with Damien, but he did nod her a hello when he seen her in the halls.
"Not much," she said. "Just trying to wake myself up."
"Yeah, same here. I only got four hours asleep."
"Can’t be beat forty-five minutes of sleep."
"Yeah, it looks like you’re screwed." He then laughed, showing off his blindingly white teeth. She had never seen teeth so white before. His blue eyes and teeth reminded her of Holly’s own features.
From across the room, Mrs. Livingston smiled at Savannah. It was an almost encouraging smile. Savannah shrugged. She wasn’t going to vote for herself, but if she were to get nominated then she would really be popular. So she wrote down Elisha’s name and hoped they both got nominated.

Why am I so attracted to my friend?
Alright, my best friend is a girl, around the same age as me. We’ve known each other for about 4-5 years, but we’ve gotten a lot closer within the past months. She says she likes me, but wants to keep it at just friends appearantly. She sometimes unintentionally hurts me seriously, I have almost lost her as a friend from my own anger - but I’ve been holding this all inside. I’ve been attracted to her as long as I’ve known her, and she’s always in the back of my head. I think I might be obsessed… And no matter what she does, I always manage to forgive her. I love her and care for her a lot, but I really don’t know why! If it was anyone else, I would have given up by now, and forgotten about her.

I just want to know why I’m so stubbornly attracted to her. My friend [another girl, one of her friends] says it might be like her scent or something on a level we don’t notice, like a primeval instinct.

Pufnstuf (1970)

Plot: Jimmy runs away to be by himself after a bad day at school. He takes his flute down by the sea to relax. When he lays the flute down it becomes alive. (Turns to solid gold with diamond studs). Plotting to steal is a witch named Witchiepoo. Jimmy hops aboard a beautiful magic talking board that wants to take him out to sea. But the boat actually belongs to the Witch… who turns the boat back into a black evil craft meant to trap Jimmy and bring him to her. But Jimmy escapes from the boat and makes a swim for land. A Dragon named Pufnstuf was watching the whole event between Jimmy and the witch. Pufnstuf and the cops (two ants named Cling & clang) go to aid Jimmy. Jimmy ends up on the shores of Living island (where every thing is alive) & is rescued by Pufnstuf & Co. The rest of the movie has the witch trying to get the magic flute in order to impress Boss Witch and her Friend Witch Hazel (Mama Cass Elliot), while Pufnstuf and Friends are attempting to find ways to get Jimmy off of the island.

When since I was three my dad and mom have been showing me shows of the 80’s and 70’s. You know the old kids cartoons that used to be on on Saturday morning. My favorite has always been HR Pufnstuff, sigmond the sea monster Lidsville and land of the lost. Though Iv’e never been able to Find HR on youtube I really want to watch it to bring back old memorys. plus Iv’e only seen only episode in my life and I kind of want to know how HR ends.
